  Witnesses: Werner Risselmann and Christ Becker Married: Anton GrossFortmann marries his First Cousin Anna Magdalena Polking. Anna's mother or her Father's Mother is therefore a Fortmann. Or, Anton's Mother is a Polking. Unanswered however is whether this Mother was from the Gross or Kleine Fortmann Farm. The probability is Gross due to the superiority implied in the Gross lineage when it came to education and public service. Both farms abutted the higher stationed Polkings who also had a Lohne residence. First Cousin marriage is practiced in these times to protect status and land holdings although the Catholic Church and parish pastors vigorously renounce the practice due to the genetic abnormalities that were known to be produced from such marriages.
