  By trade Anthony is a butcher and it is probable that he provided his services to John Lauermann, propritor of "Lauermann's General Store" in New Trier, Illinois now Wilmette, Illinois. At age 59, having just learned of his brother Franz's death in Sudlohne Germany, Anton, on 28 April 1884 applies for a US Passport to visit LOHNE, GERMANY. ........this is the 1st US record indicating the location in Germany of Clemens and Heinrich Fortmann. .......US Citizens: Anthony, Heinrich, Clemens and their Sister, Anna Maria Kleinefortman were all baptized in St Gertrud Catholic Church in Lohne, Germany. .......As of this date, 24 Feb 2008, none of their ship passage's has been located. 1850 US Census: shows an Antonie Hascan in Chicago Ward 8.......this is probably our man as there is no closer surname in Chicago. Name: Anton Haskamp was the key person in determining where the Fortmann's migrated from in Germany. When his brother, Franz died in Germany in 1884 [Franz had married a Fortmann sister in Germany] Anton filed a US request on April 4th 1884 for a Passport to visit LOHNE, Germany. This track took us to St Gertrud's Catholc Church in Germany and the Haskamp and Fortmann birth, death, and marriage records. Both Families were farming families 2.4NM So. of Lohne in Sudlohne.
