  	Upon the unexpected death of Lehrer [Teacher] Herbert Polking the Sud Lohne community asked Heinrich Anton to assume the teaching position. Anton served 25 years as Lehrer from age 24 to 59. He taught the Mother of Clemens and Heinrich KleineFortmann. She was his 1st Cousin on the adjacent KleineFortmann Farm.

  	Anton GrossFortmann marries his First Cousin Anna Magdalena Polking. Anna's mother or her Father's Mother is therefore a Fortmann. Or, Anton's Mother is a Polking. Unanswered however is whether this Mother was from the Gross or Kleine Fortmann Farm. The probability is Gross due to the superiority implied in the Gross lineage when it came to education and public service. Both farms abutted the higher stationed Polkings who also had a Lohne residence. First Cousin marriage is practiced in these times to protect status and land holdings although the Catholic Church and parish pastors vigorously renounce the practice due to the genetic abnormalities that were known to be produced from such marriages.

• Notes

  Anton Fortmann became the Teacher ("Lherer in Sudlohne)" of the Sudlohn, Germany School in 1791 following the death of Herbert Polking. Heinrich Anton was the father of Rev Franz Josef Pastor of St Joseph's Parish in New Trfier, Illinois in 1849 who marries the FGortmann boys, Clemens and Heinrich to the Lauermann Girls.
