Land records held by Property Insight LLC show that John H. J. Fortman (Johannes Heinrich Joseph Fortmann)purchased a substantial tract of land in Ridgeville, Illinois on September 1, 1849. He received a Quit Claim Deed from John Waggoner (Wagner) and Wife. This deed was recorded 17 years later on 29 June 1866

On April 17, 1851 he and his brother Clemens August Ludwig jointly purchase a strip of land from John Wender and Wife. This is John Zender who, in 1842, married Maria Anna Schmidt, daughter of Johannes Peter Schmitt aka Schmidt aka Smith. This deed is recorded 3 years later on 24 Apr 1854.
Marriage records of St Mary's Church, Chicago show a John Waggoner and Barbara Lauermann marrying Oct 29 1843.

We see Clemens Fortmann marrying Maria Katherina Lauermann on 20 Nov 1848.

We see Clemens brother John Heinrich (Henry) Joseph Fortmann marrying Catherine Lauermann on 29 Jan 1846.

It suggests that John Wagner and Barbara Lauermann sell some of their land to John Henry Joseph Fortmann who is Barbara's brother-in Law. Family ties are very close in the German community!!
