Notes: Calvary Cemetery opened in 1859 with the closing of the City Cemetery in Lincoln Park, Chicago. This was the 1st Cemetery of the Archdiocese of Chicago, founded 1843 but not the 1st Catholic Cemetery of Chicago. St Joesph's, 1849, is older. The first Mass in the Cemetery was offered on the Feast of the Assumption, 1865. The celebrant was Rev. Patrick Flannagan who was late because his buggy mired in the heavy sand of the north shore. Charles Comisky was in attendance.
