Notes: St Boniface Cemetery was opened in 1863 on Chicago's north side at Clark and Lawrence. It was dedicated to serve the German Catholic Community and named after the Saint who died in Germany in 754 A.D., after 36 years as a missionary. He was known as "The Apostle of Germany".

Granted the name "Bonaface" by Pope Gregory, II, the Priest Winfrith, in 719 AD traveled to Germany on a mission of conversion.

Boniface, felled a sacred tree to the Germanic god Thor. As the tree fell it broke into 4 pieces that formed the shape of a cross thus demonstrating the power of the Christian God.

He was killed at the age of 73 in an attack on his camp.
