They acquire a second piece on 17 April 1851 via Warranty Deed from John Wender (Johann Zender in Germany's records).......the transaction is recorded 24 April 1854.

    Prior to this.

John H. J. Fortman (Johannes Heinrich Joseph Fortmann (Henry I)) bought several acres of land, along Robie St (Damen Ave)in Ridgeville, Illinois in his name only on 1 Sep 1849 from John Wagner and Wife. This couple is his brother-in-Law and sister-in-law. The deed is recorded 17 years later on 29 Jun 1866.

These men are marrying sisters and it is now known from pre-Chicago 1871 Great Fire records that John H. J.'s land purchase is from his brother-in-law, John Wagner and sister-in-law, Barbara Lauermann.

The best man of both brothers is Anton Haskamp whose brother married a Fortmann sister in Germany.

    Died:
After marrying at age 25 Clemens resides, with his family, on his brother, John Henry Joseph Fortmann's farm on Robie St. at age 27. It is 1851. Notes:

    Name:
St Henry's Cemetery founded in 1863.......Lot 5 Block 5 owner: H Fortmann (presumably: Johannes Heinrich (a.k.a Henry 1st.........) shows a grave site for S.E. Fortmann w/date 30 Dec ??? on the plot card......entry was made after original card written.....this implys a possible reburial from another site since the year is unknown...........Chicago City Cemetery (founded abt 1825.....closed 1870 with all but a 1000 disinterred for reburial) and a Catholic Cemetery founded in 1835 near 23rd and Calumet predates St Henry's........additionally....... This burial site also contains K. A. Fortmann, 1857.....next to S.E....is also a grave predating the opening of St Henry's and thus implying an earlier burial...............this also suggests that the Fortmann's were in the Chicago area pre their appearing on the 1870 Census..........the 1861 "Flowers" map in the Library of Congress shows Clemens Fortmann owning land on the Ridge & Robie St. Section in 1861.
Clemens & Henry must therefore have been in this area by 1860.

    Buried:
    previous date 9 Jan 1865

    Notes:

    Name:
Lot 5 Block 5 owner: H. Fortmann St. Henry's Cemetery record shows K. A. Fortman, (Katherina?)date of death: 1857........could this be mother of Johannes Heinrich, a.k.a. Henry 1st, and Clemens Fortmann? This Cemetery card record entry appears to have been made after the original card was made and could imply that this is a reburial......since death date is before Cemetery was opened in 1863....perhaps reburial from City Cemetery.
