Lauermann Daughter's Katherina and Maria Katherine undoubtedly enjoyed many an hour here with their husband's to be, and the brothers, Heinrich and Clemens Fortmann from Lohne, Germany. They well knew the boy's older sister Anna Maria KlieneFortmann and surely attended her funeral on Sept 1, 1846 in the new Catholic Cemetery of St Joseph's just 2 blocks down the road. Their pastor was a GrossFortmann also.
The Lauermann's were from Buschfeld, Marzig-Wadern, Saarland, Germany. This is in SW Germany near the French border. |

Ridge...it is 32 yrs. old in this photo...Peter died in the back bedroom here last year...the house now belongs to Louisa Schmidt Fortman and her husband Frederick. Married 8 yrs. Their Son Albert Joseph, not pictured will be born in 17 months. This Son will receive the house from his Mother in 1937. Albert Joseph will Will the house to his Son, David who will take title upon his father's death 7 Sep 1987. This house has thus been in the Schmidt Fortman lineage for 136 years................................................................................ Note the Greenhouses in the back, the carriage shed on the North side, the kerosene lamp in the bow window and the scalloped upstairs bedroom shade. The house does not yet have city sewers which will be laid in Ridge Ave. next year. The chimney cap is typical of the period as is the European grape-vine lattice a few feet south of the front porch. The bulkhead wooden-door can be seen to be open on the south side behind the large tree....................Louisa Smith Fortmann, Mistress of the house in this picture is age 32. |

 | 1885 John Morris, age 50, born 26 Dec 1835, taught at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, Professional Surveyor, Married Catherine Sheridan 4 Oct 1864 in Carlow, Ireland. Arrested 16 months later on 25 February, 1866 for his role as Notorious Fenian Head for Carlow. Fenagh and Myshall Districts. He provided these Districts with "rods" supplied by a fellow Fenian, Moore. He was arrested at his Uncle Edward Nolan's Farm House by Constable Cox at about 7AM. He was held in Carlow "Goal" until deported. British officials paid 50 pounds and Arthur Cavanaugh an additional 50 for his capture. (see newspaper article by Saunders for further details. He settled in Chicago in 1867, his wife, Catherine O'Callaghan joined him and they had a first Son, Robert Emmitt Morris on 16 August 1867.) Worked for Chicago Railroads most of his life and was deeply involved with Irish Freedom Issues and his Catholic Church. |
