1857 Oldenburg, Germany, the new Gas Works
Oldenburg was one of the 1st 30 Cities in Germany to have a gas works. On May 24th 1853 Wilhelm Fortman and Ernst Gottlieb Buesing, plumber-master, signed a contract with the mayor of Oldenburg, Herr Woebken, for the construction of this plant. Wilhelm had taken the idea from a visit to England.
