1999 year-old human bones found in the Teutoburg Forest, Germany.

Bones of Legioniers and the Cheruscian Warriors killed in 9 CE in the battle of Teutoburg Forest, Germany..........five pits were found containing the (often cut) bones of adult males. The skeletons seem to have been exposed for a few years before they were finally buried. This fits with the record of the Roman Legion Commander, Germanicus, stationed in the area of Munster, who returned to the battle scene in the summer of 15 CE, 6 years after the battle and buried the bones of the fallen.
